I have been posting in JD chat rooms and forums, on the quest to get people to turn me on to some as yet undiscovered tribute bands. Today, I heard from a fan in Austrialia. It is so fasinating to me how this band, who put out TWO RECORDS, the lead singer who has been dead for THIRTY YEARS, can still inspire so much dedication.
Hi Jennifer, I guess I should fill in some gaps about myself. I live in Perth, Western Australia. I’ve lived here for 22yrs. I was born & raised near Cambridge, England, Left there to come to Australia when I was 25.
I was totally obsessed by music from a very early age, I had parents who loved (their music), & an older sister & brother. My ‘time’ arrived just as punk took hold. My bands were, amongst many others.. Blondie & the Boomtown Rats (these 2 bands both strangely had 6 band members, try & name 6 piece bands...not easy). I saw them both at their peak at the Hammersmith Odeon, London in ’78 & ’79.
My love for JD started I guess in 2002 when I saw 24hr Party People, & since then I’ve been obsessed, I have numerous books, posters, vinyl, DVDs, cd’s...& now..tattoos. What I love about JD is that the music is the closest thing to art in a musical sense. I love the people surrounding the story, & THE story. The movie Control obsessed me, I followed it on the net. I was in Chicago in Oct ’07, I read that it was showing at a movie theatre in West Houston, NYC the next day so..... I caught a 6am flight the next day, went to the movie, then flew back to Chicago the same day!!!
